וַתָּבֹ֤א בַת־שֶׁ֙בַע֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה לְדַבֶּר־ל֖וֹ עַל־אֲדֹנִיָּ֑הוּ וַיָּקָם֩ הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ לִקְרָאתָ֜הּ וַיִּשְׁתַּ֣חוּ לָ֗הּ וַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙ עַל־כִּסְא֔וֹ וַיָּ֤שֶׂם כִּסֵּא֙ לְאֵ֣ם הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַתֵּ֖שֶׁב לִֽימִינֽוֹ׃
Deshalb ging Bath-sheba zu König Salomo, um mit ihm für Adonija zu sprechen. Und der König machte sich auf, um ihr zu begegnen, und verneigte sich vor ihr und setzte sich auf seinen Thron und ließ einen Thron für den König setzen's Mutter; und sie saß auf seiner rechten Hand.

For the mother of the king. Our Rabbis said [this refers] to Rus the matriarch of kingship.12See Maseches Bava Basra 91b and Rashi there. Rus was the great great grandmother of Shlomo who was still alive when Shlomo ascended the throne.
